Announcing: BURNSIDE INSIDE! A Burnside Music Series Wintersession

While just last week the weather would have NEARLY cooperated with a Burnside Music Event (did you notice the chestnut trees started to bud?) winter has finally settled upon us. We don’t know about you, but with darker days and seasonal chill, we are seriously missing the R+R provided by the Burnside Music Series.

With this in mind, we have decided to bring the outdoor series IN! With the Burnside Music Series Winter Session.

We are thrilled to announce a super special collaboration with beloved partners and good friends AURORA for a Burnside Music Series WINTER SESSION!

FINALfinalBI

An indoor take on our popular summer music series, this weekly event is free and open to the public. Same good vibes, same community feel– only more cozy!

The Music:

We’re really looking forward to these local performances, many of which have already seen the greener grasses of our summertime series.

January 7th: Apropos of Nothing – Cliff Wood +  Caitlin Strokosch perform improvised works to kick off our Burnside Inside series. With sax and cello in hand, the two will be working with Gerry Heroux (trumpet, french horn) and Dave Dalzell (guitar) drawing upon a multitude of influences and genres.

January 14th: Kate Jones (from Sugar Honey Iced Tea and Hott Boyz) – A harmonious blend of 90’s alt singer/song writer with fresh melodies and arrangement. Maintaining authentic lyrics to her own experiences, Kate’s words are fluid in how they can be interpreted. She is interested in how the meaning of a song can change not only from listener to listener but also from the perspective of the creator through the evolution of their relationship with it.

Whale-Guitar

January 21st: Whale Guitar – made to raise awareness of the plight of whales in seas made toxic by the activities of man, and to raise funding for the work being done by Ocean Alliance to protect whales, the oceans, and ultimately ourselves. With its Moby Dick theme, The Whale Guitar depicts Melville’s warning of the victory of the whale (nature) over the monomaniacal pursuits of Ahab and his following crew (mankind). This “Sonic Nantucket Sleighride” is on a journey to be played and signed by guitarists to carry the message that it is time for mankind to change our toxic attitude toward nature. The Whale Guitar has been exhibited and played at whale benefits and music festivals such as the Newport Folk Festival along its journey.

The Providence Research Ensemble at Aurora January 2015

January 28th: Providence Research Ensemble–Providence based composer J. P. A. Falzone performs his music with a rotation of local musicians. Elaborating simple mathematical structures, his work is in the minimalist tradition. Falzone draws on diverse influences–from Buckminster Fuller to systems music composers such as Chris Hobbes.
