Fundraising Challenge: accepted!

Want to help us get a check for $5000? Of course you do!

As an independent non-profit, we work hard to stay connected to our community. One of the ways we do that is by meeting periodically with our advisory board. A group of enthusiastic citizens who live, work, and play in Downtown Providence.

At our last meeting, Executive Director Cliff Wood gave a spirited presentation of our current projects. Fresh from representing us at the 24th annual Congress for New Urbanism in Detroit, Cliff was inspired and excited to share what we have going on in our Downtown Providence parks. He shared projects that are in the works, dream projects we’ve yet to start, and past successes that we’ve accomplished.

Here are some of the fun accomplishments (just from the spring!) that we’re proud of:
  • We coordinated 170 volunteers through 3 different events to help beautify Burnside Park & Biltmore Park and get them ready for our summer programming.
  • We funded the restoration of The Hiker monument, located right in the heart of Kennedy Plaza, in partnership with local sculptor Jeff Buccacio.
  • The mayor joined neighborhood cyclists and pedaled into the park on Bike to Work Day.
  • We joined in the city-wide PVDFest by curating 16 performances and 8 family friendly activities in the park.
  • The StoryCorps Mobile Booth rolled in and is parked in the park as part of its national tour.

In addition to all that we did this spring, this week we’re kicking off our summer programming with family friendly kids events such as KidoInfo Story + Art in the Park, the KidoInfo Play in the Park and the Downtown Farmers Market. Coming back for another summer is everyone’s favorite excuse to leave work early, the Burnside Music Series + Beer Garden.

Burnside Park will also host a Bilingual Shakespeare production of Romeo & Juliet on July 13th and the Doppelgänger Dance Collective will perform a piece choreographed just for Kennedy Plaza during the lunchtime and evening rushes.

At the end of our meeting, our entire team was surprised with a fundraising challenge by one of our loyal board members and park enthusiast. He has agreed to donate $5000 if we can raise $5000 on our own from all our friends of the park! That’s you!

Help us take advantage of this generous offer by donating today! Your donation is tax-deductible and every amount helps, big or small, it will all go toward helping us hit our goal.

Together we can make Providence’s Public Spaces safe, healthy and accessible to everyone!
