The Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy is thrilled to announce that The Providence Foundation has received a $15,000 grant from The Heritage Harbor Foundation for “the restoration of bronze plaques on the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Downtown Providence.”
As a project of The Providence Foundation, the DPPC will be managing these funds and the monument’s restoration. The Heritage Harbor Foundation has a long history of helping to fund many projects in Rhode Island of historical significance. As an organization, “The Heritage Harbor Foundation believes that an understanding of history and heritage enhances personal self-esteem, instills in individuals and communities a sense of place, and leads to greater civic engagement.”
The estimated cost of this project is $300,000 and will restore the monument, as well as make permanent infrastructure improvements inspired by the monuments original design and footprint.
