Save the date, November 27 is #GivingTuesday

At the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy we know that there are a lot of organizations out there deserving of your generosity. As you think about where to make your charitable contributions on #GivingTuesday this Tuesday, November 27, we hope you will consider the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy. Not sure how we’d spend your money?

Here are 5 different ways in which we’d  use your generous gift.

  1. To restore the Soldiers & Sailors Monument.
We have raised over $216,000 for the Soldiers & Sailors Monument Restoration Project. While that isn’t the full amount needed for this project, it is enough to get to work on the first phase of the restoration, and help us plan for the second phase.
  2. To buy more books for our Open Air Reading Room.
Our open air reading room is a quiet oasis in the middle of downtown Providence. Children, caregivers and families share books and read together in an outdoor, open space. A unique place to read quietly,  and also a place to make friends and tell someone about your favorite book.
  3. To expand our seasonal programming.
This year, through the funds received from the Southwest Airlines Heart of the Community Grant, we were able to extend our programming into the fall with great success. We had four additional Noon Tunes concerts, and introduced a new series: Art Days at the Imagination Center.
  4. To invite more artists and organizations to partner with us.
This summer we had an even larger number of special partners for our programs. Local artist and musician Rachel Blumberg led several projects as our artist in residency, and we partnered with Audubon Society of Rhode Island, Save the Bay and Roger Williams Park & Zoo to bring their mobile programs to the park.
  5. To continue to grow our special events.
Each year since its inception we have curated events in Burnside Park during PVDFest, and they have gotten more extensive and more popular each year. Last year we were part of the inaugural Winter Lights Market, an event so successful it’s back for a second year.

It is thanks to the generosity of supporters like you that the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy is able to continue to bring free programming to downtown Providence and enhance our shared public spaces. Donate today here!
