Spring is here and May is when we get to work on our huge task of getting the parks ready for summer. This year we’re excited to be teaming up with three different groups who are volunteering their time to help us clean up the park and get it ready for our summer programming.
We’ll be kicking things off with a visit from students at the Wheeler School. Special thanks to them for including us in their Day of Community Service, an annual event where students spread out throughout Providence to volunteer in different capacities. This year we’re looking forward to having their help getting ready for our summer programming. We’ll be working on maintenance to our Imagination Center, as well as cleaning and organizing all the toys so they’re ready for another year of kids.
Next, we’ll be teaming up with the Providence Biltmore and many of our neighbors from companies that border Biltmore Park, the little park on the other side of the skating rink, right in front of the hotel. Employees from businesses such as the Biltmore, the Omni Hotel, the Providence Foundation, the Downtown Improvement District, Forensic Risk Alliance and others will work together on some spring cleaning for the park. We’ll be planting flowers, spreading mulch, staining benches and getting to know each other a bit better.
Lastly, we have the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation visiting the city. This organization’s mission is “To inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.” Volunteerism is “the heart and soul” of their organization. These talented kids will be spending a day in and around downtown, visiting with state senators, the mayor and spending time cleaning up in our park.
We’re so excited to work with these members of our community who use the park each day, as well as young people with a passion for volunteering in the community. It’ll be fun making a direct and positive impact in our city together.
Stay tuned for photos of each event and follow us on Instagram and Twitter for real time updates as we’re working.
